BRAIN FOG TIPS (we all need them)

Currently back in MCR, dreaming of the warm sun in Mexico, a fresh coconut & endless amounts of energy.

Speaking of energy, WHERE HAVE YOU GONE?!

But really, does anyone else feel like they’re in a daze half the time? Without a lot of clarity? Sometimes I feel super out of it & just ‘not all there.’


I feel like there are 134723048 hands going up.

After speaking to so many of you over IG, I have realized this is a HUGE issue- an issue that needs to be talked about. Brain fog.

Despite all the wellness practices in the world- it still happens. Whether it’s because of lack of sleep one night or something deeper like a thyroid problem, brain fog is REAL. It can inhibit you’re ability to function effectively & efficiently which is a SERIOUS bummer.

To be specific, brain fog is “a term used for certain symptoms that can affect your ability to think. You may feel confused or disorganised or find it hard to focus & put your thoughts into words.”

Since suffering from brain fog my cousin asked if I was on top of my supplements. I began to dig deep & gain some the knowledge of which vitamins I was depleted in & what could help promote clarity.

Let me break it down for you:


+ Omega-3: IS MY FAVORITE FOR BRAIN FOG. Since your brain is made primarily of fat, Omega-3s are essential! There are three types of omega-3 fatty acids: ALA (helps protect against heart disease, cancer and other health problems), EPA helps fight depression (said to be as affective as a common antidepressant drug) and DHA improves the quality of your sleep. Basically Omega-3 in your best friend.

+ Ginkgo Biloba Extract: is an herbal extract from one of the oldest species of tree in the world. It is referred to as a “living fossil”, because it has continued to survive even after major extinction events. PLEASE give me this extract. It really has been used for centuries to enhance memory.

+ Phosphatidylserine: aka phospholipid is basically your brains version of 4G. This component helps the process of cell signalling. Obviously we want our 4G as strong and fast as possible, phosphatidylserine is your tool for that. ALSO studies suggest that the level of this substance in the brain decreases with age (eurgh) so best keep getting your phospholipid fix.

+ Alpha-GPC: increases a chemical in the brain called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is important for improving memory, thinking skills, and learning. As well as that it used by fitness enthusiasts to increase performance; oh hey HANDSTAND. Triathlon? Sure. Iron man, just give me a scoop of Alpha-GPC!

+ L-Tyrosine: is an amino acid that is naturally produced by the body. It helps increase dopamine (pleasure centres), adrenaline (your fight or flight response), thyroid hormones (metabolism), melanin (pigmentation) AND may increase your overall energy. WOAH.

That’s right since suffering from brain fog there were a few other things I had to check in on. Like, water! Ok this might be boring by now but please make sure you’re getting 2L a day. Also, sleep. We all know how important sleep is don’t we? Plus, evaluate your nutrition!

I found that foods play a BIG play in my mental health. Well duh?! We literally are what we eat. Your food is the key instrument to building a healthy body = HEALTHY MIND. When you begin to treat your body with love and nourishment everything else begins to flourish too. Because you are building your body with strong materials. Food is fuel and nutrient rich food is medicine.


+ Cacoa: high in antioxidants that may increase learning & improve memory.

+ Nutritional yeast: great source of B vitamins which are linked to cognitive improvement.

+ Turmeric: the antioxidant curcumin makes turmeric a powerhouse. Seriously, it’s been proven to stimulate new brain cell production.

+ Avocado: full of healthy fats, avocado can help improve the absorption of vitamins from leafy greens. Also rich in Vitamin E which can slow cognitive decline. True story.

+ Celery: contains luteolin (a flavonoid antioxidant) that protects the brain from inflammation, cognitive ageing and neuro-degenerative diseases. It enhances memory and learning!

+ Ginger: as well as ALLLL the other benefits of ginger, there are the antioxidants and bio-active compounds in ginger can inhibit inflammatory responses that occur in the brain!

+Walnuts: thanks to the high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants!

+ Spinach: high in lutein, an antioxidant that protects the brain from free radical damage and inflammation!

SO are you eating nutrient-dense foods?  Greens, fibre, healthy fats – stock up. But the real juice happened when I did a juice cleanse with Pres Juice. Detoxing my body from anything artificial and processed was super beneficial. I found it completed rebooted my system (physical and mental) and shifted my energy from a low vibe to electrified!

+ Yoga: if you didn’t know, I love yoga. & there are SO many benefits. But let’s skip to the mental benefits for the sake of this post. When I’m dealing with brain fog, it kinda feel’s like there are 500 million file folders open in my mind, by the end of a yoga session, I feel like they’ve all been organized and colour coordinated. For me it 1000000% increases productivity.

+ Swimming: a low-impact, non-weight-bearing option, which completely boosts mental clarity: swimming. Moving in water brings me into a flow state as I connect to the fluidity of the element. Being in flow over being in fog, thanks!

+ Running: cardio is great to elevate your energy because you literally pump blood to your brain. A LOT of people tell me running is their meditation, its endorphin fuelled goodness. All forms of cardio will do the same. Bottom line: do what you enjoy!

+ Walking: get outside. In nature (preferably a forest). Walk slowly. Breathe. Open all your senses. This is the healing way of Shinrin-yoku Forest Therapy, the medicine of simply being in the forest. “Scientifically-proven benefits of Shinrin-yoku include: boosted immune system functioning, with an increase in the count of the body’s Natural Killer cells, reduced blood pressure, reduced stress, improved mood, increased ability to focus”.

I hope these tips help you find some relief to the cloudiness, as they did for me. We are living in an era where a lot of people are having brain fog, if that’s you – THEN TRY ALL OF THE ABOVE. I’m telling you – these tools srsly work!
