Take Time To Nourish Yourself : JOURNALING

Creating time for a wellness ritual is a beautiful self care practice. The effects are infinitely positive, and can radically shift your life. I know because that’s exactly what happened to me!

This is a stream-of-consciousness style of writing that helps you basically purge your thoughts before you start your day and helps you let go at the end of it.

It’s kind of like a writing mediation. You may bring your hopes, dreams, fears, & confusions into focus. They point us toward areas that need attention. While some people may use the journalling to face an issue, others may find that writing leads them towards dreams they had never articulated. As we come into focus, our size and shape are often surprisingly large.

Here’s the catch: there’s no stressing, no exceptions, no erasing- JUST WRITING. PEN TO PAPER. WRITE, WRITE, WRITE. It can be about NOTHING or it can be about SOMETHING- get rid of all judgement. Write whatever is on your mind whether it’s stupid or not- JUST WRITE.

THIS IS FOR YOU. Not even to re-read really. It’s more of a mind-dump. Write for no one. Do not become attached to the outcome, become attached to the mind-dump.

After a bunch of reading & researching & listening to interviews of successful people, I have found that successful people form daily habits. They know that success does not happen overnight, it happens in your daily habits. SO- what are you doing daily that’s contributing to your overall success?

For me, journalling represents something I do daily, call it a ritual that has become a healthy habit. I believe this habit will open doors for me that would not be available had I not picked up this new routine. It’s also one that relaxes me, sets the tone, keeps my mind sharp, & comes with a reward. In fact, I I feel accomplished early in the morning and I feel peaceful at night.

I share this with you all not to preach but to showcase how much writing has helped me- for a while ( this is another post ) I’ve been feeling overwhelmed, unsure and confused. This is one of the things that has helped me process life.

Life is filled with stressors that can trigger our nervous systems and keep them in a heightened state of fight or flight. When we live in this state of high stress almost non-stop, it wears on our body and minds, causing pain and disease. It is imperative to take time to relax your nervous system so that it can enter its state of rest and repair, where your body’s natural intelligence heals itself.

Honestly I would go as far to say that writing helps heal. It’s shifted my focus from being all go, go, go, answering 230948209384 questions every day, putting out fires, returning e-mails, clutter, chaos, CRAZINESS to slowing down, finding stillness, being present and simply expressing what I need to get off my chest.

Through a journaling practice we are called to look into our own darkness, reconnect with our inner world and find comfort within ourselves. Use pages to express your fears, get out of your body and onto paper. Let journaling be a vessel of transformation.

I so hope you try it.

If you need guidance, my morning pages include three questions:

  1. What I need to let go of?
  2. What I am grateful for (at least 3 things!)?
  3. What I will focus on?

My evening pages include three questions?

  1. What filled me with enthusiasm?
  2. What drained me?
  3. What did I learn about myself?

But you can have your journal be about anything you want really.

Just write everyday with no expectations or stress. It’s that easy. I’ve also been reading (novels) in the evenings and NO PHONE IN BEDROOM RULE has been the best habit of my entire life. But one habit at a time. Small healthy habits daily, create great success.

If you decide to do journal, tag me (@mirallegro) on your IG Stories so I can check it out.

Love you all- Claudia xo
